How To Become An Online Life Coach - And Make More Money.
There are some key things to know in order to build an online business that is financially solid. After working in the coaching industry for over 7 years, I’ve picked up a thing or two about what not to do. Best practices for life coaches come in many packages, and there’s really no right or wrong way to do it.
And after years of being behind the scenes with hundreds of life coaches, business coaches, and spiritual entrepreneurs, I can tell you with absolute certainty that there are three things that are key to being successful on your terms.
Knowing Who You Are As a Life Coach
Have you sat down and really thought about the truth of who you are? Do you know what makes you tick? I don’t know that we will ever fully understand who we are, because we are limitless and expansive beings. However, it is part of the journey to be open and curious, and constantly want to know more.
Awareness is everything, I say, and my clients and students will vouch for me on that. I say it all the time, and it’s true. It can be challenging to change if you’re not aware of something.
So although this is by no means a complete or extensive list, there are some journaling questions to help you explore your own awareness. Do this often, do this daily, and stay open and curious as you begin to learn more and more about yourself.
What do you love to do in your free time?
Create an extensive list of all of the skills you’ve ever learned in your life.
What are you really good at?
When you ask your friends about some of your strengths, what do they respond with?
What do you spend the most time thinking about?
What forms of play did you love as a child?
If money were no object, what would you be doing with your life?
What are you most passionate about?
What do you wake up thinking about in the morning?
What are some of your hobbies, and are there any hobbies that you would love to include?
Set Powerful Intentions for Your Coaching Business
When I first started my online business my only thought was that I wanted to make more money. That thought quickly got me into a lot of trouble, and ended up with me being even more broke at the end of it. Thinking you’re starting a business only for money will quickly disappoint you.
Consider the reasons why you might start a coaching business.
You want to help people.
You want to create an impact.
You want there to be more love in the world.
You don’t want others to suffer.
You’ve learned some valuable lessons and you want to share them.
You want the world to be a better place.
There are limitless reasons why you might want to start a business online, and although the money will be a side effect, I invite you to take your thinking to another level. You’re not in it just for the money.
Getting clear on your thinking about what you want is important. You want to spend a lot of time in the vision and thinking about your dream and your ideal business.
Who do you work with?
Where you will be sharing your work?
How will you share your work and your vision?
Who will help you and support you as you grow?
What types of things do you want to share?
How will you share?
What do you see yourself doing in the next 2 years, 5 years, 10 years?
Once you have an idea in your mind of how you think you’d like your coaching business to unfold, you then need to add the secret ingredient.
Knowing Why You are Starting a Business
This is the part that many entrepreneurs skip over, and it’s the most important key to success. You must know why you’re doing what you’re doing. You must feel your feelings and be able to recognize the drive behind the dream.
So many entrepreneurs that I’ve worked with in the past get clear on what they want, create a massive to-do list, and then get to work. They didn’t take time to get into the feeling state behind the dream, and they ended up in burnout and adrenal fatigue. Willpower will only get you so far as an online entrepreneur. You must have fuel for the fire when things get tough.
There are so many things to learn and do when creating an online coaching practice. If you aren’t focused daily on WHY you’re building it, you will lose your drive to get it done. You will step away, sabotage, or procrastinate when something hard comes along.
If you don’t want to sabotage your results, then you’re going to have to feel those feelings and truly know your why.
The Law of Divine Timing in Business
There are six stages to the Law of Divine Timing, and when you know what they are, and you understand what’s happening at any given moment of the cycle, your business gets easier to operate and life gets simpler. You will make more money, you will have more ease, and your whole life will improve.
