The Rhythm of Your Business and Creating Balance
My business used to be called ‘get shit done’ and I was a control freak.
I held on to beliefs about how things ‘should’ look. I demanded excellence from myself on a daily basis, and I required everyone around me to do the same. I convinced myself that I had to be at my desk working for a stupid amount of hours and that everything on the to-do list had to be done before I could ever step away.
I burnt myself out, ruined relationships, ended up broke and seriously did harm to my body. Life could not go on this way - but all the productivity ‘gurus’ and personal development coaches kept saying, ‘You gotta hustle!’
What I didn’t realize at the time was that ‘excellence’ was meant to be well-rounded and holistic. It meant that I also took excellent care of my soul, my body, my health, and my well-being. It meant that I took excellent breaks, and ate excellent food.
Excellence didn’t mean all work and no play.
As soon as I began leaning into the feminine side of my business, everything got easier. I realized there needed to be a cohesive balance between the get shit done attitude and the rest, relax, and flow pieces.
Because it can’t all be rest, relax and flow either. There is a time and a place to drink tea on the patio AND there is a time and a place for the hustle.
We need BOTH.
We must be willing to sit quietly, listening and following our intuition, and we must also be willing to take action when inspired, not waiting for the perfect circumstances and the stars to be aligned. There is a perfect timing cycle to all of it, and we must learn to leverage each stage to our advantage.
Excellence is about understanding this timing cycle, and not judging yourself for any stage that you’re in. When you are quiet and introspective, you can know the timing and realize you need not judge yourself for being still. When you are so busy you’ve forgotten to shower and eat, you need not judge yourself for being in massive action.
There is an EXCELLENT timing for all of it - and knowing what ‘time’ it is for you is crucial to your success. Do you know what time you’re in right now?
